Remember how at the start of the gay marriage debates, a lot of people were claiming that gay marriage was a threat to the institution of marriage? Well, the most recent information from the National Center For Vital Statistics (thanks to HuffPo for the link) shows that after 4 years of gay marriage, Massachusetts has the lowest divorce rate in the nation. The rate of 2.0 divorces per 1000 marriages puts it at the lowest rate since 1940. Clearly, gay marriage hasn’t ruined anything.
Can we spell it out more clearly than that? Well, I don’t think so. Unfortunately, the folks who prefer to spread fear and confusion rather than looking at the actual situation will probably not pay any attention to the numbers anyway.
Here’s a clip of Rachel Maddow covering this last night. Enjoy!
