This is a well thought-out piece. I like it. And I like the term “fierce compassion.” I was never a fan of the phrase “tough love.” I like to think of myself (when I succeed in being who I want to be in situations like this) as a “love warrior.” I think you could also say “unwavering compassion,” but the key point to me is that you have to endure something hard in order to do the most loving thing.

Part of why I like it is that it can be really fierce. It has some similarities to “tough love.” In both cases, it really does need to come from a place of compassion/love, and yet, it can be strong and powerful. That’s what makes it fierce, IMO.

I’m not sure I like the term “fierce compassion” (I’ll have to roll it around in my brain some), but the actual concept is one I am all in favour of.
