It’s a cliche that before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes, but that’s because there’s a lot of truth to that statement. After all, once you’ve experienced something from another person’s perspective, it’s much easier to imagine what it’s like for them. That’s one reason why I think pegging can go a long way toward improving things. Pegging is the term for when women use dildos and strap-on harnesses with male partners. (Is there a different term when people of other genders use strap-ons with male partners?) And while the main reason people do it is because it’s lots of fun, I think there’s an added benefit that lots of folks don’t know about.
There have been plenty of books …

A few months ago, I wrote about some research that had been published about women’s vibrator use. Last week, I attended a conference held by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors & Therapists and I got my hands on the research paper. It’s an amazing read and there’s much more to this study than I had realized.
The first thing worth noting is that (as was reported last year), vibrator use among women is much more common than many people realize:
46.3% have ever used a vibrator for masturbation 37.3% have ever used a vibe during intercourse 40.9% have ever used a vibrator during sexual play with a partner
Overall, 52.5% …

If you saw my post the other day about how silicone lubricants can be flammable, you’ll be glad to know that we’re always looking out for you and getting the information you need to play safe.
The buyer at Good Vibrations contacted the manufacturers of our silicone lubricants and asked them about this issue and they were all very responsive and helpful. (As an aside, if you ever have a question about sex toys or any other products email us at education@goodvibes.com and we’ll do what we can to help you out.)
Every single one of them told us that silicone lubricants have a very high flash point, which is the temperature at which a substance vaporizes to form a flammable mixture in …

I have to admit that it never would have occurred to me to check and see if lubricants are flammable. After all, when I think about the question of whether lubes burn, I’m thinking more about allergic reactions and yeast infections.
Fortunately, Garnet Joyce ran across a sex guide that said that silicone lubricants are highly flammable and she wrote a blog post about her experiments. It turns out that, yes, silicone lubricants burn.
From a safety perspective, this is super important information. Lots of people like to use candles to make their bedrooms more romantic. Less common, but still relevant, some folks like to play with candle wax to give their partner a sensory experience. And if you wipe lube off on a …

OK, so maybe not everyone geeks out about vibrators as much as I do. It’s one of the hazards perks of my job after all. And after years of talking about how people use vibrators based on anecdotal evidence and customer feedback, it’s great to have some numbers. According to two new papers published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine (abstracts available here and here) more people have discovered how much fun vibes can be than we’d thought.
These fine folks surveyed 2056 women and 1047 men and came up with the following numbers:
52.5% of women have used vibrators. The women who had were “significantly more likely to have had a gynecologic exam during the past year” and were more likely …

I’ve been meaning to write something about one of my all-time favorite toys ever, the Aneros. This nifty toy is the ideal prostate massager for so many reasons. I’m not going to go into the details of how to have anal sex since you can get that info elsewhere. (See, I even gave you a link!) And sometime soon, I’m going to write something about prostate play in general. Instead, I want to talk about why I like this toy so much.
First off, it’s an ideal size for a beginner’s anal toy. It’s slim, but the neck is just narrow enough to keep it in place and it’s long enough that it extends past the anal sphincters, which makes it a bit more …
