one more reason to love the interwebs

Coco De Mer has been coming out with some wonderful ads. They’re really sweet, very sexy and often thought provoking. Here’s one named “Whatever Tickles Your Fancy”. Enjoy!

my new favorite website: 25 Things

I have a new favorite website. It’s 25 Things About My Sexuality and it’s fabulous!

The idea is pretty simple. Just email the host with a list of 25 things about your sexuality. People have been sharing their experiences, fantasies and practices and it really highlights how complex sexuality really is. It’s also super fun to read- some of the posts are quite terse, while others are more descriptive. There are some really hot stories, some heartbreakers, and lots in between.

The blog is pretty new and only about 30 people have posted. But check it out and add your list to it. Someday, it’ll be an amazing quilt of sexual experiences.

sex research and fuzzy thinking

I read a lot of sex research- both the sorts of stuff that makes a splash on the blogs and the stuff that most people never hear about. And I often see research become sensationalized in the media. OK, that’s nothing new, but can I just say this? CORRELATION IS NOT CAUSATION!!

Just because two or more things happen at the same time doesn’t mean that one causes the other. One might cause the other, each might cause the other, they might both be the result of some other factor, or it might simply be coincidence that they both happen at the same time. One of the reasons for using the scientific method in conducting research is that it’s a systematic approach to inquiry that

a not so new way to raise money

From US News & World Report and the San Francisco Examiner and other sites.

Paying for grad school isn’t easy, so Natalie Dylan (not her real name) is auctioning off her virginity and so far, the bidding is up to more than $3 million. I’m pretty impressed, although I’m not clear on why being someone’s first time is worth so much. I can see how some folks would say she’s cute, but that’s a heck of a lot of money.

One thing that I find so interesting about this is the response in the blogosphere. The blogger on US News & World Report said “[T]here are a multitude of student aid options that do not involve selling one’s body. (How about a Stafford loan?)” There’s

some/many/most

I spend a lot of time reading sex info websites and blogs as part of my job. They can be a great place to find the latest information about sexuality, get answers to questions, and check out the current thinking about issues that affect sex. Having said that, I’m not the first one to notice that one of the greatest strengths and biggest weaknesses of the internet is that anyone can post a webpage and make it look like they’re an expert. Lots of the writing on sexuality is simply inaccurate or entirely wrong. So here’s an easy thing to look for when you’re checking out the sex info online.

Look to see if the writer makes sweeping statements. That might be something like “women

sex-positivity is…

I’ve heard a lot of people talking about sex-positivity, especially on teh interwebs. But I don’t see as much clarity around it as I’d like. So here’s my take on what it.

First off, what sex-positivity isn’t:

Sex-positivity isn’t about how much sex you have, how many partners you have, what types of sex you have, or how often you have it. It’s not about being wild and crazy. It’s not about being a slut. It’s not about being kinky or using sex toys. It’s not about being queer. It’s not about being straight. It has nothing to do with any of that.

Sex-positivity is about having a positive relationship towards sexuality, especially your own sexuality. That means that the decisions you make about what

we need some porn research

I’ve been inspired lately and I’ve been reading a lot of articles and blogs about porn. The first thing that I have to say is that many of them seem to be written by people with very little actual information about the industry. I’ve been with Good Vibrations for 12 years now, and I’ve learned quite a bit about the porn world, so I can say with some authority that it’s much more complex than most of the portrayals of it would let you know.

There are plenty of anti-porn folks out there who make lots of sweeping statements about the experiences of women in porn. Of course, they almost always ignore the experiences of men in porn and the existence of gay porn, which
