Unless you’ve been really out of touch, you’ve probably already heard about how the Mormon Church has poured millions of dollars into Proposition 8, the proposed amendment to the California constitution that would ban same-sex marriage. Mind you, this is money coming from outside the state, from a tax-exempt church in order to fund a political campaign. In all fairness, I want to acknowledge that not all Mormons support the way that the church has encouraged its members to donate money and time to support Prop. 8. And there are other religious groups that support Prop 8, but the Mormons have taken a more direct stance in the campaign than other groups.
